Cooktops - Gas Vs Induction

!±8± Cooktops - Gas Vs Induction

I'm often asked by my customers which cooktop is better - gas or induction? I always answer the same way - that depends on what you mean by better! Let me explain...

In the past, if you wanted the best performing cooktop, you wanted a pro-style cooktop, or rangetop as it is commonly referred to in the industry. There are many brands that offer high output burners which will also give you a delicate simmer. These rangetops make it possible to boil something quickly while never having to move the cooking vessel when it is time to turn the heat down to a simmer. (You may have seen the chocolate chips melting on a paper plate demonstration showing how delicate some rangetops can be.) Most brands offering high-end rangetops will give you an incredible simmer. My favorites are Wolf and Viking as every burner will give you the low simmer and high output.

Here is the drawback to gas cooktop - they are NOT easy to clean! I can't tell you how many people tell me about how they've scratched the porcelain or stainless steel on their cooking surface trying to scour it clean. And that's not to mention normal heat discoloration that is easily visible after regular use with stainless steel cooking surfaces. The grates are also hard to keep looking new. Grates should not be washed in the dishwasher as the rubber grommets will wash out. The grates will more than likely develop rust in the dishwasher, too.

This is where Induction cooktops spark the interest of my customers who want the performance of a professional rangetop, but want something easy to clean. Induction - or magnetic induction - works on the molecular level. The magnet creates friction in the cooking vessel (ferrous metal pots and pans are necessary - if a magnet sticks to it, you are good to go) creating the most efficient source of heat at more than 90 % efficiency. Gas cooktops are about 60 percent efficient, depending on the model. Back to the cleaning issue... Because there is no heat passing through the ceramic glass on the induction models, they are a breeze to clean. You don't have the usual burning in on the surface as you do with radiant smoothtop or gas cooktops. Soap and water usually does the trick to clean the induction top.

Induction is very fast to bring water to a boil, too. Depending on the electrical specs of the cooktop, you may be able to boil 1 quart of water in 30 seconds! The fastest gas rangetop will do the same in around 2 mins. 30 seconds. It will also go to a simmer instantly - great for when you've noticed the fudge starting to boil over!

So why wouldn't everyone choose induction over gas? Here are a couple things:

If you need a range (with oven), there aren't many to choose from right now with an induction top. Your choices currently are Viking and GE Profile.

Induction cooktops require more power. If you have a 30" cooktop presently, you more than likely have a 30 amp breaker. Most 30" induction cooktops will require a 40 amp service. You will more than likely need an electrician to make this work.

If you need to boil more than one vessel at a time, make sure to find out about power sharing on induction cooktops. Some cooktops will only be able to produce a boil on one burner while others are being used. This can be problem for large families or for those who hire caterers to cook for dinner parties, etc. Having said this, there are models available that you are able to boil more than one pot at a time. Make sure you know those models that can.

So which is better - gas or induction? That's up to you to decide. If you want high performance and easy cleaning, induction is a great choice. If you entertain and need to boil many pots at once, or even if you lose power often where you live (most gas cooktops can be lit manually with a match), gas may be the right one for you. The great thing about cooktops today is we have so many great choices to choose from in gas and induction.

Solar Energy - RV Alternative Power Supply

!±8± Solar Energy - RV Alternative Power Supply

Back in the days camping is camping, which means taking your tents and nothing else to the wilds, like the Tepee to the American Indians. That's because electricity was not available for them and that is how camping should be. Today however, we have RVs and campers for sale that can put the best tepees to shame. But unless you're a full time Rvier you don't need appliances like the television or CD/DVD players, computers, netbooks etc. they're unnecessary and will cut down some quality times in the woods. If you are planning to watch something exciting on the television over the weekend, stay in your house and go fishing the next weekend. Camping means unplugging yourselves from these gadgets. Camping is about listening to critters and wolf calls at night, wandering about in the woods by day, taking only pictures and leaving only footprints.

Rvs and campers for sale have pre-installed power sources, and in some used truck campers or travel trailers, generators are also included. But as much as possible you need to cut down on your power consumptions, except if it's extremely hot or cold outside. Here are some of the common power sources in campers and Rvs for sale.
RVs have V8 and V10 engines that keep the air conditioning systems on when the engines are running, while you can use plugged-in electricity (110-230V power supply), propane gas or power generators which runs on fuel to power the refrigerators, microwave ovens, 2-3 burner gas range and the rest of the conveniences. There are usually two batteries found in RVs and campers, you have the vehicle battery or SLI (starting, lighting, ignition) and you have the house batteries. The house battery is used to supply power to appliances and lights when the engine is turned-off. Propane gas or more commonly known as liquid propane (LP) are used to power heaters, 3-4 burner stoves, barbeque grills, water heaters or to keep the refrigerators running. There are two types of LP tank holders, the Department of Transportation (DOT) and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) containers, the former is commonly found in smaller campers like the Truck trailers, pop-up campers for sale while the latter is mostly favored in motorhomes for sale which are mounted in horizontal positions.

Power Generators are usually used to power the RVs air conditioning systems. They are also needed to recharge the house battery. Generators are measured in watts, smaller RVs needs 3000 watts to power the air conditioning systems while the large motorhomes needed generators with 6000 watt capacity to power multiple air conditioning systems needed to cover the whole area. But they drown the blissful sound of the woods with the noise coming from their motors. Alternatives to power generators RV Solar Power systems are good alternatives to power generators, they are not heavy on the maintenance costs side, are not noisy, and are less expensive to operate. But whether you are camping on occasions or full-time Rvieng, this type of power system is worth considering. However, you will also need to consider the ability of the solar power system to provide the exact power you needed which is limited depending on the;
The number of solar panels installed on your RVS Or the amount of solar energy you have drawn from the sun.

a) The former heavily depended on how much time you intend to spend camping. To cut down on the complicated computations of how much solar panel you need to run your RVs or campers. You need to consider that a 200 AH house battery needed at least 75 and 120 watts to operate well, follow this guideline and compute how much you needed. Or you can simply buy 2 solar panels initially, which is a safe number, and just add more panels if need be.

b) Some of the solar panel brands can not work well if one of the panels are not receiving as much sunlight during the day as needed or when shaded from the sun. However, there are some brands specifically designed to skip over the shaded panel so the energy collection process is not disturb. You need to choose the brand carefully to avoid losing power supplies when you them need badly.

Some of the best solar power manufacturers offer to install the solar power panels and takes care of the electrical power conversions or procedures for free or minimal payments, as much as possible let them install the product on RVs or campers, this will help avoid electrical problem due to improper installations and ensure 100% performances among other benefits.

Commercial Kitchen Appliances

!±8± Commercial Kitchen Appliances

When a business chooses commercial kitchen appliances, this decision is not going to have the same factors as one would use when choosing appliances for the home. Maybe some of the same factors may be the same. Prices, styles, brand names, and warranties are what most consumers think of first. The difference in this decision is what the appliances are to be used for. Home appliances can cost less and be smaller than commercial kitchen appliances. A restaurant is a good example to use when discussing the selecting of commercial appliances for a business.

A restaurant will need an appliance that will last for a very long time, do certain things other appliances may not do, and the price will fit into the budget they have for their business. There will be times, though, when a business will spend more on an item. Spending more on such things as commercial kitchen appliances is worth it, especially if there is a good warranty that comes with it. Also, a business can use this expense on their expense section on taxes later on. If a business were to spend less and think they got a great deal, they may decide that they did not later on. Some things that cost less end up causing a lot of headaches, money, and time.

Some commercial kitchen appliances for a restaurant may be things like icemakers, wine coolers, coffeemakers, freezers, and refrigerators. Other major appliances for restaurants and their kitchens are ranges, ovens, cook top stoves, and conventional ovens. One of the most popular brands for these kinds of appliances is GE (General Electric). Scotsman is a good brand name for ice machines. Ultimately, just because a brand name is popular does not mean that other brands are not good choices.

If a business is looking for commercial appliances and are finding it hard to decide on which brand is best, they can do a search for certain brands and find reviews other customers have written about each brand. Also, most brand name companies will have information available to consumers so that they can learn more about the company and its products.

Another thing a business can do when they purchase commercial kitchen appliances is to get their products monogrammed. They can have their business name put onto each item that they purchase.
